Whelping Box

I did a lot of research before I built this whelping box. It is very easy to setup, it takes less than 30 seconds.  I added the Lovett's Heated Whelping Nest because of all of the positive feed back I read on different sites on the internet.  We have raised 3 litters now with this design and it has been very successful.

Here is how this box and nest setup.

The box folds and stores on edge.  There are castors for easy movement.  The knob you see is a screw that is removed so that you can open the box up when your ready to use it.

There is a knob on each side.  The cord is for the heated whelping nest.

Here you can see the bottom of the box and the whelping nest.  The little black box on the top is a LED that glows red when the whelping nest reaches the exact temperature of 95 degrees.

First you wheel the box into place where you want it with the bottom towards you.  Next pull the box over and set it on the floor and remove the two securing knobs on each side.

Raise the back wall.

Raise the left wall and screw the knob into the hole to hold the wall in place.

Raise the right wall and screw in the securing knob.

There you have it.  The pig rails are supported by shelf supports and screws in the sides.

Here is a better picture of the whelping nest.  The strip on the nest is a test thermometer that comes with the nest.

Here is a better shot of the LED that tells you the nest is at temperature.  Each test I did showed that temp at 95 degrees any place you touch the flat part of the plate.

Guide rails so you can adjust the height of the front wall with cut boards as the pups grow.

So there you have it.  It works just great.  They are easy to build but are very heavy.
